Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the dental care specialization field that studies, prevents and corrects alterations relating to dental arcade development and the position of the maxilla and teeth as well as functional mastication disorders in order to re-establish the morphological and functional balance of the mouth and face in addition to enhancing apatient’s facial aesthetics.

Some of the most common alterations include:

Deep overbite
Severe overjet
Open bite
Midline shifts
Diastemata or gaps between teeth
Dental crowding
Dental malposition

At our clinic, we assess each case exhaustively by conducting a preliminary
orthodontics study before diagnosing the most appropriate treatment for each patient. This study includes the patient’s medical history, extraoral and intraoral photos as well as other additional tests.

Types

Orthodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Orthopaedics

This type of treatment is used in patients with facial bone structure and dental shape, position and function anomalies. The aim is to prevent, diagnose and correct any skeletal problem, whether deficiencies or excesses, where the bone is stimulated to re-direct growth.
At Control Dental Europeo, we use special devices to halt or develop growth which are also used to treat children before their bone development is complete.

  • Disjunction.
  • Maxillary and mandibular orthopaedics.
  • Mandibular advancement devices.

Plastic or invisible orthodontics

With the Invisalign® system, our orthodontist can correct the position of the teeth with a series of transparent aligners with using any fixed devices.
Each aligner is custom-made for each patient’s mouth and must be used for
approximately two weeks. After that, it is switched with another device that adapts to the new teeth position.
The main advantages with Invisalign® are:

  • Aesthetically, it’s the most highly recommended option as it’s practically unnoticeable.
  • Functionally, patients can take the device off to eat or brush their teeth which helps maintain good oral hygiene throughout treatment.

Conventional orthodontics

Fixed multi-bracket appliances (metal and sapphire):

Multi-brackets are fixed metal (grey) or sapphire (white) appliances that are cemented to each of the teeth and interconnected with a wire or arch to move the teeth.

Low-friction fixed multi-bracket appliances:

These are next-generation brackets which, when combined with high-tech wires, create a light and low-friction force system to move the teeth faster and more efficiently.
